The movie touches your heart intensely,
with such well chiseled characters, of a father being an ideal example of
humanity to his son by fighting every immorality against all odds; a son in awe
of his ‘papa’ and following his path of justice whatever it takes; and a grand
father who is a prey to the wickedness of this world and trying to escape this
reality. The movie forces you to believe in the existence of such an unbelievably
pure and selfless family. Vidhu Vinod Chopra movies always make you believe
that people like that still exist. He gives those people an identity and a
confidence to keep on fighting, with dignity. Moreover, he gives us a hope that
the end of the world is not near, since there is some little goodness left. And
believe me; even that slight amount of pure honesty is enough to fight all the
injustice, if united. Only if we are ready to support the noble and imbibe that
honesty in ourselves can there be a hope to live with pride.
The movie also shows a woman who
is very sharp in her professional life, who perfectly knows how to make use of
things and people whenever required. Or the bank manager who refuses loan
because of defaults. I felt that the movie tried to represent the people stuck
on that thin line between selfish and selfless. The best part is that it is
shown that at the end of the day, having a good heart and soul, and being able
to be the reason to somebody’s happiness gives you ultimate satisfaction. The story
does have bad characters (the politician or Mr. Dharamaker- the people who sit
at the top and exploit their power), who are shown to have a publicly successful
life, but a very hollow lifeless soul. It makes a lot of sense, and makes any
average ordinary person feel special and lucky, makes you feel rich with the amount
of morality you have, not your bank balance.
I wept with the movie a few times,
but when the movie ended I cried uncontrollably, even when the titles started
rolling up! I realized that I was crying because it was the end of the Ferrari ki
Sawaari- LITERALLY! My ‘Ferrari ki Sawaari’ was the journey into the beautiful
world of justice. I suddenly snapped out of that world where all the goodness
united to defeat the evil, to the world around me in reality, where people pull
you down like crabs. I was suddenly broken to realize that there is no Rustam
(the father) anymore and Kayo, the little boy and no victory over injustice.
What a sad reality.

Dear Manjari,
ReplyDeleteFirst good that the movie inspired you to come to write after maybe an year's gap. Second, your reaction to the movie and the goodness in it is commendable. I am sure we need to get over our cynicism and skepticisms to rise and do whatever make us and people around us happy. Interesting expression I found was "pure honesty", in today's world even honesty is adulterated and dubious and that may a big reason for people to "believe" and have faith.
Look forward to read more. Take care, Cheers!
